On Thursday September 8th, at 29 weeks, the babies had their fourth sonogram with a perinatologist (a specialist in the life and development of fetuses and infants during the perinatal period) at the hospital where the babies will be born. Perinatologists work with high-risk pregnancies, and since all twin pregnancies are considered high-risk, we got to go pay him a visit.
Since there are no complications with the babies other than the fact that they are twins, the sonogram went by pretty quickly. The perinatologist checked their head, torso, and thigh bone measurements. Their head mesurements indicated that they are now the size of 31 week babies, even though they are technically only 29 weeks. The perinatologist said they have very nice big heads, and told us that we must be doing a good job. But we know better than to take credit for our babies' robust health. We thank God for giving us such big and healthy baby boys!
Both boys have gained about a pound each since their last sonogram. Baby A sprouted up to a whopping 3 lb. 1 oz. and Baby B is not far behind at 2 lb. 14 oz. That means Katie is carrying 6 lbs. of baby inside of her, the equivalent of one full-term-sized baby!
The coolest thing we got to see was Baby A opening and closing his eyes! It was an amazing sight to see those big eyes blink at us.
Click on the picture links at the left to see close-up pics of Baby A. Unfortunately, Baby B decided to hide his face, so we didn't get any pictures of him this time. Hmm, we really need to come up with some names for these guys...
